Bonnaroo 2009 Artist: Galactic

Galactic is a New Orleans jamband that formed in the mid-90's. They combine elements of jazz, electronica, world music, funk and as of more recently, hip-hop. Several hip-hop artists have collaborated with Galactic including Boots Riley, Gift of Gab and Chali 2na.

Founding members, Robert Mercurio and Jeff Raines, began the band while attending college at Tulane and Loyola, respectively. They brought in Richard Vogel, Ben Ellman and well-noted drummer Stanton Moore. In 2004, vocalist Theryl DeClouet left the band, which led the band in the direction of instrumental music.

They became enamored in the local funk scene, with artists like The Meters and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and have invited several artists up on stage to jam with them including the Neville Brothers, George Porter of The Meters, members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and Garage A Trois saxophonist, Skerik.

The band tours hard, and has gone on the road with the Allman Brothers Band, The Roots, Widespread Panic, BB King, Counting Crows and Jurassic 5.
