Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are an indie, punk rock band that formed in Washington, DC and members are based around the northeastern states. Leo started this band after his previous band, Chisel (who had toured with Fugazi and Blonde Redhead), broke up in the late '90's.
The band has seen several members come and go, and their current live lineup also includes James Canty on guitar, Marty "Violence" Key on bass and Chris Wilson on drums.
They were signed to Lookout! Records in 2001, but left the label in 2006 amidst financial crises. They are now with Touch and Go Records, a label that includes !!!, Blonde Redhead, TV on the Radio and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
The band's popularity has grown because of heavy touring and performances at large music festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and Pitchfork. They went on the road last year with bands like Pearl Jam, Against Me! and Future of the Left.
