No, this band is not from Portugal, they are in fact from where else but Wasilla, Alaska, and currently based out of Portland, Oregon. Their band name came from several ideas including David Bowie's "bigger than life" fame, as well as the name of a book vocalist John Gourley was planning on writing about his father.
They are an alternative, post-hardcore, experimental indie band made up of former members of the band Anatomy of a Ghost. At times the band uses drum machines and synth loops to anchor their songs, while other times they use the conventional guitar, bass and drum setup.
Gourley provides the band with his high-pitched vocals, and abstract lyrics that rely heavily on imagery. Last year, he took home AP Magazine's 'Best Vocalist of the Year' Award.
They have released three studio albums thus far, the 2006 debut, Waiter: "You Vultures!", with the other two drawing attention of critics, 2007's Church Mouth, and last year's Censored Colors.
