Brought into this world as Charlie Ray Wiggins from Oakland, the man now known as Raphael Saadiq is a singer, songwriter and record producer associated with the soul movement.
You also may know him as the lead vocalist and bass player of the popular '80's R&B/Dance trio, Tony! Toni! Tone!. After their demise, Saadiq went on to the supergroup, Lucy Pearl, which included Dawn Robinson of En Vogue and Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest. Unfortunately, they were finished after their only album.
Saadiq is a very well respected talent, who has worked with anyone and everyone in the music world. Let me throw some names at you. Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, The Isley Brothers, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Macy Gray, Angie Stone, Snoop Dogg, Q-Tip, Ludacris, The Bee Gees, Lionel Richie, Nappy Roots, T-Boz from TLC, Floetry, John Legend, Joss Stone, Babyface, Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire, among many, many others.
At just 42 years young, Saadiq has paved the way for several artists, and has already accomplished a lifetime's work in a short time.
Look for Raphael Saadiq to pop up throughout the Bonnaroo weekend, collaborating with a number of artists.
Other Bonnaroo artists with soul power:
Al Green, Erykah Badu, Allen Toussaint
