Bonnaroo 2009 Artist

(Gospel/R&B/Soul)

The first great soul singer of the '70s, Green bridged the gap between deep soul and smooth Philadelphia soul, while also incorporating elements of gospel and R&B.

Making stylish records with tight beats and sexy backing vocals, Green landed thirteen Top 10 hits during the early seventies including "Tired of Being Alone", "Let's Stay Together" and "I'm Still in Love with You."

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, Green was recently named #14 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of "100 Greatest Singers of All-Time."

His latest album, Lay It Down, was released on May 27, 2008 and was produced by Grammy Award winning producer James Poyser and The Roots Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson. It's his first Top 10 album since 1973, and thanks to the production team, as well as guest artists like Anthony Hamilton, John Legend and Corinne Bailey Rae, the album gives Green a more youthful sound.
