A former UNC playwright student, Joe woke up one day and realized he wasn't happy with the direction he was going. So he packed up his things and headed for Chicago.
He worked as a carpenter by day, and at night, broke out a guitar he hadn't played since his high school days. Already having plans for a play he was writing, he took those ideas and created "the sublime lyrical masterpiece" that would become the Nation of Heat EP.
These songs were recorded on a limited budget, but that was okay. All Pug needed was a mic, a guitar and harmonica. His wholeheartedness would shine brightly through every note he sang, and the rest as they say, was history.
Fast forward to May 2008, where Joe would play his first headlining slot, at the widely known Schuba's Tavern. Two weeks later, the EP was finally released, and would eventually establish him as one of his generation's most respected songwriters.
He has since toured with the likes of Todd Snider, Susan Tedeschi, Kasey Chambers and James Hunter. His full-length debut album will be recorded this year.
